Climate Change.
It is real, and it is here, now. Melting Icecaps, pollution, rising water levels resulting in devastating floods, wacky and unpredictable weather and intolerable heat waves are all a worsening reality these days.
For many years now scientists have been warning the globes communities to take action, to do something to stop or slow the effects of climate change down to a level that us human beings can tolerate and function in. But we, as human beings, have been too busy, too self-centered and too self-assured to listen and take the appropriate actions to save our Earth. We have been careless.
Now, it may be too late.
Rising water levels are not slowing down, and tornadoes, hurricanes and cyclones are becoming a more common occurrence with each passing year. It is getting harder for us to heat our homes in the colder seasons, as it is getting generally colder, and our planets natural resources are already beginning to run low and cause huge economic problems for the everyday person. It will only get worse from here on in.
As a country we need to take drastic action to ensure our Earth can continue to sustain human life as we have always known. We must think about our children, as much of a cliche as that may be, and about the future generations of people who will also enjoy our planet.
We were made in the image of our lord, God, but we have taken the beauty and power He has given to each of us, and used it to better our lives for ourselves. We have chosen convenience over consequence. He have pushed the thoughts of our impact on the Earth to the back of our minds, clouded it, and forgotten it. If it means we will be inconvenienced to recycle, we will throw the rubbish in the bin, and not even think about its impact on the environment. Companies build huge chimneys to expel thousands of pounds of pollution into our air every year, and we don't think of it, even when our children are born with breathing difficulties and illnesses. We leave cigarette butts and cans in our gutters to be flushed into the ocean, not to mention the unmentionables we flush down our toilets.
Everyday we pollute the environment, making climate change a faster and more intense reality, but only a select few of us are really doing anything to act on it and change it. We need to snap back to reality and take a long hard look at the way we live our lives, and what we are doing, or not doing, about climate change.
The time is now, and shouldn't we, as the cause of the problem, try to resolve the problem? It's the right thing to do, but e must act now, because before we know it, we won't be able to help, and if the Earth dies...So do we...
