Poetry: Fear of death

by Alex Calhoun

Created on: August 09, 2008

Walking through the woods one day,
Exploring fields of unknown space,
I came across, (to my dismay)
A samurai without a face.

He stared at me with lacking eyes.
He dragged with him a rusting sword.
With tension on a constant rise,
It seemed he wouldn't be ignored.

I asked him where his face had gone.
His silence killed my cheery mood.
His glare apparent as the dawn,
This ghost was being rather rude.

But, as I tried to leave, he stuttered,
Cocked his head and flicked his wrist.
My mind; It raced. My heart; It fluttered.
I stiffened as he loomed and hissed.

"My face is missing", he replied,
"Because I fought with honor tossed,
And, in this spot, I layed and died.
Stripped of my dignity; I lost."

"My presence should not bring you fear.
To warn is what I'm meant to do.
Although, it is quite lonely here.
I'd like it if you died here too."
