Some insurance is like no insurance at all

The storm was exceptionally formidable with its high velocity winds beginning to kick up swiftly as I slowly made my way towards my home. The rain which accompanied the storm was making it near to impossible to see out of my window however I still managed to get my station wagon parked and rush to my front door.

As the door swung open I saw my wife and child huddled safely on the sofa with a flashlight perched near by. "I am so glad you made it home safely" my wife stated with a smile. "That storm out there is really bad tonight."

I merely nodded as I dried my wet hair with a towel. As I started to be seated I heard a crashing sound emitting from the front of our home. I leaped from the couch and ran to the door. Quickly I tossed the curtain to one side and peered out into the rainy night.

It wasn't easy to see what had occurred but it appears that a large tree in the front yard across the street had fallen directly upon my Taurus wagon. I through open the door and rushed to the side of my car but there was really nothing that I could do except to wait until morning.

When the morning sun came up everything seemed calm and peaceful except for my car. The tree had landed directly upon it and although I am no insurance adjuster, I figured it was now a complete wreck. I quickly called my automobile insurance company and they agreed to send an agent over immediately.

Upon his arrival the agent reviewed the situation and came to the same conclusion which I had reached earlier. He took pictures of the car and tree as well as made many notes of interest. Finally he approached me and informed me that it was completely totaled and he would have an estimate later that day.

That afternoon I received a telephone call from the insurance agency informing me that I would receive a check for three hundred dollars in the next few days. "What" I said. "Three hundred dollars is all I will be getting for my car? I can not even find a Junker for that amount."

In the end I settled for slightly more then the 300 dollars but I would certainly advise everyone from that day on to find an insurance company which would provide them with a replacement cost policy. I learned my lesson the hard way.
