Poetry: Letting go

The Dream

In the dream we sat abed
My amour, In Love and I
Young in heart, hand and eye
She a flower flowed in lace
Long blond hair sweet round face
Complete a childlike smile

But I sat with an aching heart
And tear filled eyes
For In Love would not
My needs provide
Despite my pleas, my
Love undying
For her was not so satisfying

Somehow She did not seem to find
Within the pleading of my eyes
The smiling silver of a glass
To bring completion thus to pass
And fill her woman as a man
So perfect love in golden bands.

Then at once the air did change
I realized that I sought the same
Completed self in perfect other
The holding of a one true mother
So at once was calm my soul
With no need of a perfect whole

My life would breathe within without
Giving taking flowing out
Completing no one's perfect mold
And no keyed lock within my soul.

And then I kissed her sweet blond head
Cleared eyed, a man, I left her bed.
