We lead such busy lives these days trying to combine our home lives and work activities and ensuring neither suffers as a result. This can lead to a lot of stress and anxiety and looking for time saving solutions can provide you with some breathing space to help you relax and save some of that energy.
Do not try and be superhuman and hoover every day. It is surprising how a room can look tidy if the cushions are put back into place, the bins emptied and used cups and plates put in the sink or in the dish washer as soon as they are used. Do not let them pile up. Put things back where they are taken from to avoid clutter. Just a general tidy of all the rooms will make a difference and get the house looking spic and span.
Have one day in the week when you hoover the whole house thoroughly and make sure all the members of the family do their bit in the clean up session. Every member of the household should have chores and these can be rotated so that everyone at some point has to clean that bathtub and toilet!
Cooking for the whole week on one day might sound cumbersome but it will give you a break from cooking every single day of the week. Once the cooked food is cold it can be put into labelled foil containers and frozen. For the rest of the week all you do is come home from work and just put the container in the oven, as simple as that.
Salads and other vegetables can be prepared and packed in plastic bags and refrigerated. Plan menus for the whole week and have a list prepared so that nothing is left out to necessitate additional trips. Try and complete the week's shopping on one specific day to save on time and petrol. Make sure there is always some soup, bread, milk, pasta, canned fish and fruit on your shopping list for times when you haven't got a meal prepared and want to make do with a light meal.
Do the laundry at the end of the week. Make sure the clothes have been separated into whites and non whites before you put them in the washing machine. Once clothes dry fold them straight away, there is no need to iron each and every item to make more work. Some non iron clothes do not need an ironing anyway so dont increase yor work load by ironing them again, just hang them straight after drying them to retain their shape.
Reduce TV time which amounts up to a few hours every day and get yourself prepared for work the night before. Iron your work clothes and hang them out for the next day. Prepare lunch for work, put it into a sealed lunch box and refrigerate it. Have to do lists prepared regularly and cross them out when the chores are completed. This will keep you organised and on top of things.
