A Mother's Worth

A mother's worth is immeasurable if your mother truly loves you. To have missed out on this through life's lottery is not knowing one of this world's true gifts. That is of having a Mum. I am lucky, in fact very lucky, for my Mum turns 90 this weekend and she is still with it and fun and very supportive of me. She grew up the second daughter of my Nan, who unfortunately was given up by her mother at an early age and never knew a mother's worth. But she was a fine mother herself and a wonderful grandmother to me.

A mother's worth can be measured in many ways from that first moment you leave her womb and she holds you in her arms. The bond created through breast feeding is surely a very connective bond. Why it is instinctive and young animals almost immediately upon being born start to suckle. Growing as a small child it is usually Mum who is there for you when you get home from school and even earlier than that to help you through those nappy changing feeding days while Dad is working. Who's there when you fall over and need comforting? Who's there when you need new clothes to buy them and help you put them on? The list is endless when you are a young child, and sometimes if you are a boy Mum is always better to go to than Dad and vice versa, if your a girl, Dad is always better to go to than Mum.

Mothers worth is intrinsic and bound up in her children' love and like the umbilical cord that joined at birth, there is an invisible thread always between mother and child. Mothers grow older and as you, their children, grow older, you realise many of the values they talked to you about when you were going through your young rebel stage come to light and you realise a mother's worth. Mothers are the softer feminine side that exudes that link to have a shoulder to cry on. My mother is ninety tomorrow and there were a few times when I could confide in her more than my Dad, who seemed a little tougher and had that Scottish side to him which says, "Never shed a tear boy just get on." Mothers show their worth all the time by saying things like before you go out,"Have you got enough money, don't forget to keep in touch and do you want me to wash your jumper while you are gone?". Yes, mothers are worth every design God made them with and I can see the reason he made them now and I think it was with a little more than from the rib bone of Adam.

A mother's worth is first and foremost that she has the body design that can give birth and also she has to go through this process. Why a man couldn't do that as it is fairly painful sometimes. Mothers tell you they can feel that baby moving around inside and the baby is fed internally, that certainly is a mother's worth. Fathers, though not all, seem to have that attitude that it is the mothers duty to do all the cooking, raising, etc of the children, so the children in these cases see much more of their mothers and feel their worth. A mother's worth is one of the wonders of this earth and for a child to feel it is called love, which all started with a design for things above. So when they talk of a male God, I sometimes wonder if a mother's worth is not an accompaniment up there. I would like to think so, because a mother's worth is the greatest thing that I know.
