Poetry: Acrostic poems

Lights on a string, colored red, green and blue,

Old fashioned garland and red berries too.

Ornaments of angels decorate the tree,

Keepsakes displayed for all to see.

Icicles shimmer from reflections of lights,

Nostalgia aroused of past Christmas nights.

Giddy and restless, hours pass by so slow,

Boxes wrapped neatly and tied with a bow.

Anxious for morning to unwrap the gifts,

Counting each minute the pendulum ticks.

Kissing me goodnight Mom put me to bed,

Tucking me in for the long night ahead.

Oh so sleepy, but can't close my eyes,

Yearning for morning to see my surprise.

Energy spent, finally drift off to sleep,

Santa Claus came without making a peep.

Then at dawn, I slipped out of bed

Early to rise, I found my new sled!

Rummaging through my stocking so full,

Yo-yos and jacks and taffy to pull.

Eagerly, opened my gift on the floor

And hugged my new doll I'd asked Santa for

Remembering a childhood Christmas once more.
