I get a kick out of how people will go out to their favorite local watering hole and belt out tunes. I am speaking from a Karaoke Jockey standpoint, mind you. The reason why karaoke is so popular, is because that it is a chance for people to cut loose and vent their stress away. Many times have I been in conversations about the influence of music on peoples day to day lives. Certain songs will have a particular meaning for each individual. I have certain songs, to this day, that I cannot listen to because of what they remind me of. Karaoke is a good outlet for people to vent their anger, share their soul, or just plain have a good time.

I am a KJ/DJ and I do this full time. I have seen people sing songs and cry while they are singing those songs, and I have seen people bring the crowd to their feet because of their song choice. Not because they were particularly good, but because of the song. Music is one of those things that will forever be timeless. For example, every time somebody sings DONT STOP BELIEVING by Journey, everybody cheers as the song starts. I am amazed at how popular this song is with the young crowd. It also truly amazes me at how popular other older songs are as well, but I am not going to start listing a bunch of songs.

I have born witness to some amazing things in my time as a KJ. I have seen people totally rock out. I have seen people moan the blues. I have also seen people who should never hold a microphone! But one thing remains a constant, those very same people are having a blast. Karaoke is the Japanese word for tone def. If you see the word KARAOKE outside an establishment, you should already know what to expect. The reason I do it, is to meet those interesting people and to have fun. It does not matter if you are the next American Idol. In my eyes, there is never a bad singer, only a good time. Not just that, it is about entertainment. I guarantee that if you go to a karaoke bar, there is going to be somebody there that will entertain you while you have a few drinks with your friends or spouse.

The true purpose of karaoke, however, is just to have fun, plain and simple. For those of you out there who hate karaoke, go to a show. See how much fun the people out there are having doing it. See how many truly talented people go to these bars and sing. People you know will never make it in the music industry but are just as talented. You will also see some people who could not carry a tune in a bucket, but are still having fun! Like I said, it all boils down to fun. So go on out, have a couple of drinks, have some fun, and sing your little heart out. Share with the world which songs mean the most to you. You never know, it just might be fun.
