The change should be enormous and, hopefully, for the good of the nation. On the plus side, it gives the US a way to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan with at least some of our prestige intact. The Democrats should vote to cut military spending and replacing troops who rotate home. This will force the military to devise a gradual withdrawal, and eventually, a total one. If planned correctly with both military and political savvy, this will not resemble the shamefully hysterical scramble out of South Vietnam in 1975. And if the Iraqi police and military are prepared to take over completely, so much the better. If not, the people there who have been murdering each other for the sake of religion for the past 1,000 years will just continue doing it, whether the US is there or not. Probably the biggest plus of withdrawal from Iraq will be to give the US a chance to consolidate its military forces to meet the challenges of tinhorn dictators of Iran and North Korea who are waving atomic weapons at the rest of the world.
