How to save money on eating out

Rising gas and food costs have made it more difficult for the average diner to eat out. Restaurants have been forced to increase their prices due to food costs and gas surcharges levied by their suppliers. However, there are many ways to reducing the cost of dining at restaurants. If you want to save money on eating out, try these easy tips.

Use Coupons

Each week, junk mail piles into mailboxes across the country. These ads often include coupons for popular casual dining restaurants. Don't just recycle these ads without a glance. Coupons are a quick way to save money on eating out. Many websites also offer discount coupons to a variety of restaurants, so spend time searching before heading out. Check any 2-for-1 deals and you may be able to get one entree for free! For frequent meals out, you may want to purchase an Entertainment Book. This huge coupon collection can pay for itself in a matter of days.

Check Discounts

Did you know that if you are a member of AAA, you can get discounts at many major restaurants? Many popular chains and local restaurants offer a 10% or 15% discount to people with this roadside assistance program. Check other programs that you belong to and see if there are rewards and discounts offered for eating out.

Go Early

Early bird special aren't just for senior citizens. Everyone can take advantage of discounts or specials that are offered for dining in less busy hours. Your favorite restaurant just may have a special offer if you eat earlier.

Go For Lunch

If you are dining out on the weekends, why not have lunch at your favorite restaurant instead? Lunch menus tend to offer the same great foods at reduced prices and portion sizes. If you can't make it during lunch, ask your server if you can order off the lunch menu instead. Not only will you save money, the portion size will be much more reasonable.

Avoid Alcohol

The bar is the biggest money-maker for most restaurants. A single cocktail can cost as much as an appetizer for the table to share. If everyone at the table has an alcoholic beverage or two, you may find the bill for drinks adding up to as much as the food cost. Stick to water or drinks where refills are provided, such as soda or iced tea. If you absolutely must have a glass of wine or mixed drink, stick to one and have water the rest of the meal.

Skip the Appetizers

Many restaurants offer free bread or chips before a meal. You may want to consider skipping the appetizer and indulging in these free offerings instead. Not only will you save
