Poetry: Letting go

by Chris Tyner

Created on: August 08, 2008

BENEATH THE ROSES

Can you feel me trembling?
Anticipation's too much.
Waiting has come to its end;
it's too much to trust.

If wings were my feet's guides
I would run like the wind.
Arms opened wide; hands reaching out
as my new life begins

Beneath the roses
I'll find my sleep.
Though my body rests,
my soul won't weap.
It tears me apart
to let you all go
but beneath the roses
my memory will hold.

I can hear you crying...

(I say good bye)
I know you'll miss me
(as I reach the other side)
but it's a journey one must tread.
Hold on my hand, for as long as you can
though my body's shell is dead

Beneath the roses
I'll find my sleep.
Though my body rests,
my soul won't weap.
It tears me apart
to let you all go
but beneath the roses
my memory will hold.

As you watch me slip away
know that we will meet one day
where the hands of time cannot prevail.
And you know my love for you
is something you can hold on to.

As I slip out of consciousness
I awake in the light.
