Growing up my father always taught me that the measure of any man can be found in his ability to admit his own mistakes and learn from them. President Bush and either his false pride or debt to his oil industry sponsors has revealed his tru colors as he continues to acknowledge the will of WE THE PEOPLE - those whose will he took an oath to serve. Instead he continues unphased by the message voters sent him via the recent Congressional elections and while he said he would follow the reccommendations of his generals in Iraq, he now replaces them (Abizaide & Casey) when they simply don't agree with his twisted perspective of reality. Clearly, President Bush thinks he is a one man show and still tries to be the macho rogue cowboy that rushed us into Iraq in the first place with the masterpiece of deception he so cleverly painted for the American people. There were no weapons of mass destruction, no imminent nuclear threat, and no Iraqi links to the 911 tragedy. Now that President Bush has no more lies to feed us you would think he would be decent enough to apologize and make some amends to prevent further and needless loss of life. His failure to do so puts even more Americans (and innocent Iraqi civilians) in harms way. The world has seen enough death, destruction, and misery created by President Bush.
Congress gave the President all this arbitrary and independent power and authority when they passed the War Powers Act a few years back and clearly Mr. Bush has abused it and now it desperately needs to be repealed. Just as we would not allow an alcoholic President or one with a drug problem to make life and death decisions for thousands of our fellow Americans, I believe the same applies to a President who is so immersed in a dangerous and almsot certain fatal state of denial. He simply is no longer qualified to deal with the Iraq fiasco since it was his lack of knowledge, wisdom, and ethics that put us there in the first place. Further a man who never once set foot on a battlefield and went out of his way to make sure he never did, is even less qualified to direct a war. Letting him proceed at his own will would be equivalent to turning a dangerous pit bull loose at a day care center full of toddlers. The man has become impervious to reality and needs to be put on a short leash and quickly.
Congress was deliberately designed by our founding fathers to serve as a crucial and essential check and balance to the Executive Branch of our government. Right now, that is what they need to be. If President Bush continues to defy the will of the people and keeps surrounding himself with his own "yes" people, Congress must step up to the plate and either repeal the War Powers Act or impeach the president. Granted, Iraq has become an ugly sceanrio, but if we can be honest with outselves for just five minutes and reflect how we arrived to this point of the fiasco, only one handful of men and one woman led by the President painted us into this corner and we can't just wait for the paint to dry, because the paint in this case is the blood of innocent people.
