Welcome to the first installment of Building on a Budget - Helium Edition. This series will specialize in creating excellent Magic: The Gathering decks, without any rares! That's right, none at all. These decks are intended to be the new magic player's first competitive deck. They should be relatively easy to assemble from both boosters and singles.
Todays format is Lorwyn-Shadowmoor Block Constructed. This means that only cards from Lorwyn, Morningtide, Shadowmoor and Eventide will be allowed. We'll start by concepting a Green and White deck, very aggressive in nature, with a very solid curve.
• 1 Drops (8 slots = 2 cards * 4 copies):
The first one will be safewright quest, it lets you keep hands with low land counts, and it will let yo thing your deck to dig faster to the cards that really matter.
The second card will be Barkshell Blessing, a pump spell that can become twice as good if you have two green or white creatures (which all of the creature in this deck will be).
• 2 Drops:
The first 2 mana card will also be a mana accelerator. If you want more mana, you'll want Devoted Druid. If you want a card that can also be an attacker, you'll want Leaf Gilder.
Lorwyn give a great 2 drop for this sort of deck in the form of Wren's Run Vanquisher. We've already got 4 elves, and we'll be adding even more.
For our final two mana card, Bramblewood Paragon will serve as yet another elf on our team, as well as making our warriors stronger.
• 3 Drops:
This is where most of our cards will lie. For our main source of removal, Oblivion Ring should do just the job.
To increase the amount of damage our creatures will be dealing, the Green-White aura Shield of the Oversoul will let our creatures fly over our opponent's, and be strudy blockers on the defense.
A creature that can benefit from both side of the above Aura is Kitchen Fins, which will both gain you life, and be able to do some fast attacking.
• 4 drops:
WIldslayer Elves will top out our curve and also weaken opposing creatures. This creature may not look impressive, but when it block a chameleon colossus and bings it down to a 1/1, it looks pretty darn good.
And with that, here is the final decklist.
