Poetry: Death of a loved one

by Judi B

Heaven Has My Hero Now

Heaven has my hero now,
My life with you is gone.
It's changed in oh, so many ways
But yet continues on.

I've cried so many tears, it seems,
My heart so filled with pain,
Yet the memories of the love we shared
Inside me shall remain.

Yes, Heaven has my hero now
And I miss you more each day.
If I could reach up through the clouds
I'd bring you back to stay

With me a little longer
To love you with all my heart,
To hold you as close as possible,
We would never be apart.

If I had known how it would be
To have to let you go,
Each day we'd had together
I'd have always let you know

How richer my life was because
Of you and what you meant
To me throughout the many years
Together that we spent.

The love we shared was special,
Filled with memories as it grew
Into a bond much stronger
Than neither of us knew.

It held us tight but never
Kept us from being You and Me
But also made us ONE, in such
A way so beautifully.

So, Heaven has my hero now
And with my heart that's still in pain
I must say goodbye to you
Until we meet again.

I know that where you are today
Is filled with love and peace,
Happiness and a joy, I know
That will never, ever cease.

But darling, I hope you know somehow
The love you had to leave
Behind is searching for a way
To find a reason to believe

That Heaven had to have you
And needed you more than me,
I'm trying to understand
Why all this had to be.

I haven't reached that place as yet
But I'm doing all I can.
I know you're watching from afar,
My sweet and loving man.

You see the sadness in my eyes,
The hurting still inside
My heart, the pain of losing you
Continues though I've tried

To go on, move on to what they say
Is now my brand new life
But sweetheart, that's not easy
When to me, I'm still your wife.

I need more time to find a way
To cope and to accept
The promise of our forever
Could not and can't be kept.

I'm guessing that as times go by
And as I slowly find a purpose
I'll learn to think of me as me
Instead of being us.

Until that day, the flame of what I had
With you will burn
And when the time is right
I'm sure the tide will turn.

My goal is to, one special day
Have and hold you near,
Remember all that we have shared
With you no longer here.

Though Heaven has my hero now
I'm sure you're not alone.
There must be lots of heroes
Gathered 'round God's throne.

I knew that you were special
So I'm not surprised at all
That when He needed one more hero
You'd be the one He'd call.

Now all that's left for me to do
Is wait my turn to be
A hero too, just like the rest
Then He will send for me.

I do look forward to that day
As I patiently await
Being in your arms again
When I arrive at Heaven's gate!
