JDC OP-ED: "Democratic Congress Plays Dirty Pool While Americans Suffer at the Pump" Why is Congress stalling on the oil issue? One guess. . .self-serving politics.
Democrats continue thumbing their noses while 75% of Americans want Congress to start making changes and stop hiding behind the rhetoric: "We can't drill our way out of this issue," as gasoline prices at the pump float from $145 dollars a barrel, to $117 today. Bush's move on the removal of the moratorium on drilling in the U.S. has had its impact in addition to car trade-ins, lower driving patterns, and excess oil coming into the marketplace.
According to Martin Kady of Politico.com who interviewed, Democrat Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House, she is telling Dems behind closed doors - if it will help them in upcoming elections to appear independent on the energy and drilling issue, she will become the fall-guy stopping any legislation from coming up for a vote.
The Democrats on the Hill are desperate for an Obama win. Their stalemate tactics of not allowing drilling and energy legislation to come to the floor for a vote has been ongoing since 2007. There are fears, of legislators in Pelosi's own party who are for drilling could make passage of a bill feasible. Something she and her staunch supporter Democrat Harry Reid are against.
Congress has spoken with a fork-tongue with a plethora of excuses why they can't take action on the issue of drilling since 1979. The excuses are the same. . .B.S., and politics as usual.
Congress has had 29 years since the last oil crisis to develop alternative options to make the U.S. reasonably independent of foreign oil, especially in lieu of declining domestic production in the U.S. since 1940. Evidently the access to inexpensive oil over the years has contributed to legislators lax in tackling the energy issue for future time. It wasn't worth the effort.
Media buzz by pundits and independents resound in unison, Democrats are geared up to take over the White House at any cost. Stalling and doing nothing on the oil issue, in lieu of a November win after which they will take up the debate in the Spring session of 2009 on their terms.
THE REALITY IS - YOU GET WHAT YOU SETTLE FOR! America needs to catch up with the rest of the world on energy issues. Businessman and billionaire T. Boone Pickens is investing billions of his own money to develop the wind corridor from Florida to the Canadian border, which he says: "Could provide 20% of U.S. electric from wind power.
