the most important part, snacks! Regardless of your theme, you never want to run short on food for your guests. You'll soon find out, once the snacks are gone your guests will be soon to follow.
Get creative with your Halloween snacking. Set out the basics such as chips, a cheese plate and your favorite party foods, but throw in a few ghoulish delights as well.
Make eyeball cupcakes by adding red food coloring to basic yellow or white cake mix and make cup cakes as mix directs. Frost cupcakes white. Then, using tubes of colored frosting, create a quarter-sized circle making an iris. Add a chocolate chip or black candy for the pupil. Create veins using red colored frosting for that bloodshot look.
Take your veggie tray from standard to scary by adding red food coloring to your veggie dip. Cut small triangles from bell peppers and adhere to the tips of baby carrots using a dollop of dip to create witches fingers.
For a chocolately treat that is Halloween ready, scoop chocolate pudding in single serving dishes. Crush oreo cookies and sprinkle on top. Then add gummy worms. They should look like cups of dirt.
Be sure to have plenty of beverages on hand for guests as well. For a fun party punch, mix two packages of strawberry or sugar free strawberry jell-O mix, two cups hot water, one can each frozen pineapple and orange juice and six cups cold water. When ready to serve, add two liters ginger ale or lemon lime soda (diet soda can be used). This serves about 20. White rum or vodka can also be added to taste, if guests prefer. To keep punch cold, fill a mixing bowl with punch mixture sans alcohol. Add fake mice, bugs or other spooky critters to bowl. Freeze to create large ice cube and add to punch.
Ask guests to come dressed in costumes. Play Halloween themed music and scary movies to set the mood. In my experience, classic interactive games such as Pictionary or Scatagories provide countless hours of fun; add new favorites such as Scene It or Cranium to keep guests engaged. Depending on your space and preferences, let guests cut loose with slightly more rowdy games like beer pong or bobbing for apples.
With a little bit of planning, your Halloween party is sure to please all your favorite boys and ghouls.
