In questioning the treatment options for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is must be noted that there is no specific treatment to enable a cure. The initial aim is in learning how to manage the symptoms, and to source which methods of alleviating the symptoms work best for the individual.
Following the initial diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), it must be acknowledged that it is not a short term illness, and as everyone is inherently different, a person can experience the associated symptoms for months, or even years.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can cause a severe effect upon all aspects of a sufferer's life and can prove to be a difficult process in adjusting how they live to accommodate the associated symptoms.
One or more of the following methods may be recommended by a general practitioner:
* Changing the life pattern. Adopting a balanced life can help in managing the symptoms, though the illness may appear present for a prolonged period of time. It may be beneficial to evaluate the current daily routine and adjust the pace and range of activities involved to reach a compromised level that is a comfortable balance between work and rest.
* Eating a healthy diet can also help to minimize the symptoms. A healthy, balanced diet to ensure that the body is receiving the necessary minerals and nutrients.
* The use of Exercise Therapy. A need to understand which tasks can be undertaken and how these can be gradually increased. Using gradual exercises, such as walking, with the aim of increasing the activity level steadily over a period of time. But undertaking a too vigorous regime can produce a detrimental affect and make the symptoms worse.
* The use of pain medication to alleviate the symptoms of muscle and joint pain. It may be necessary to use painkillers to reduce the aches and pains in order to be able to undertake certain activities.
A person may also experience a period of depression due to the nature of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and anti-depressants may be prescribed.
* Alternative therapies have proved beneficial to some sufferers of CFS. Complimentary treatments can be recommended, although they are not entirely scientifically proved. The use of therapies such as homeopathy, relaxation techniques or acupuncture may prove to be of benefit.
* Participating in a support group for CFS sufferers, to discuss the illness and learn of others experiences. This may help a person to connect with others to alter the feelings of isolation through talking therapy and support.
Under the guidance of a medical profession, the patient can make use of the available treatment options, through a process of managing their associated symptoms.
