How to save money by recycling

Recycling is not just about saving the environment and earning cash by giving away the useless items of the house, but also to think about more creative ways to make use of useless items for yourself. There are plenty of ways to recycle materials at home and save money.

Every year we throw away many pairs of socks from our houses. Make use of socks instead of scrubbers used to wash tiles and wash basins. With a little soap and socks scrubber, ceramic tile would shine sparkle clean. Small socks can be used to tie small pieces of left over pieces of soap. Later it can be used to wash hands or gardening equipments that are soiled.

Old clothes in good condition can be considered for a cloth swap with relatives. Other clothes can be given to recycling shops that pay for clothes. Some of these old clothes can be transformed to beautiful door mats or even to make a small bag for a picnic.

Household food cans, plastic cups and plastic bottles can be used to pot plants for the garden. It can be a perfect way to avoid spending on garden pots. Some big old paint cans can be used water plants by putting holes around it.

Take your own grocery bags for grocery shopping. It is a perfect way to reduce the amount of plastic waste that indirectly reaches land and water resources. In our locality, most grocery shops have "Bring your own bag day." On that day every plastic bag used will be charged 10 cents. Sounds too much, right? An average person uses about 5-6 plastic bags. Taking your own bag for grocery shopping on that day could help save 50-60 cents.

Food storage Ziploc bags can be washed and used a few times more. If it has been used to store cut fruits or veggies, it is a good idea to wash them and reuse. Unless it is used to store meat or cheese products that could cause food contamination, all such storage bags can be washed and reused.

Kitchen waste like vegetable peels and tea dust can be used as organic fertilizer for the garden. Setting a biogas plant may be a good way to use the kitchen waste and to use it for household cooking and lighting needs. Even the waste generated from such a plant can be used as organic fertilizer.

Recycling companies usually take up many household items like newspaper, cardboard, all sort of magazines, glass articles, aluminum cans and other items. Usually they pay a small amount for items collected which is better than disposing the items with household waste.

Giving away household items to charity organizations are a great way to get rid of the waste of your house and helping the charity. Some of these contributions to charity organizations are even tax deductible.

Second hand merchandise shops also take up used household items like furniture, bed sets, dressing table and other items and would pay you a small amount. If you are replacing the old sofa set, just let such shops know as they have provision to pick up items to resell them after repair. Craigslist, auctionpal and e-bay are also other places to sell some of the household goods.

Electronic goods can be recycled and most know of it. It is one best way to earn money from recycling.
