PERCEPTIONS
Getting it wrong is too easy, I fear,
It is one of my talents - just one.
How many times did think I could hear
Insults, when in truth, there were none?
How often have I believed someone was kind,
When really, they just meant me harm?
As though a curtain comes down on my mind;
I am swathed by insidious charm.
Then, there's a person, so brusque and so tough,
Who I think doesn't like me at all.
But they stand beside me when times get rough,
Supporting me, like a stone wall.
How do I make these mistakes, every time,
Why do I never just see
That the surface is false, the cover too fine?
Perhaps I should look into me.
