For most kids, using the words fun and healthy in the same sentence seems like a crime. If for no other reason, it may be that healthy foods often seem unappealing and drab. The best way to change this way of thinking in a child is to prove them wrong by showing them how fun healthy snacks can be.
Below, you will find a few fabulous, tasty, and simple snack ideas that children of all ages can enjoy eating and help prepare. Be sure to supervise them so that you know they are getting the proper amounts of each ingredients and mess making can be kept to a minimum. Besides, these snacks can also be fun for adults, too!
~ Glorious Granola Grab Bag~
This is a fun two-art activity for kids that will help incorporate art, counting, and snacking together. You can add or submit any of the listed ingredients to suit your child's tastes and diet.
You will need:
* Crayons, markers, and other desired art supplies
* 1 small paper or Ziploc bag
* O- shaped cereal (such as Cheerios)
* Raisins
* Sunflower Seeds
* Small bite-size pretzels
* Banana chips, dried pineapple cubes, and other finger-food friendly fruits
* Almonds or other types of unsalted nuts
* Fat free mini marshmallows
Part One: Give your child the art supplies and their grab bag. Instruct them to decorate their bag any way they want to. Let them draw pictures, write their name, or add stickers to it. Once the bag is finished, it is ready to be filled up.
Part two: Gather all the ingredients together for your child. Encourage them to count out 7 to 10 of each item. (It is up to you how many of each to put in, but it is a good idea to use the same number of each item so it is easier to keep up with.) Once the ingredients are all counted out, let your child place them in the bag and shake them up until they are mixed together well. Now, their snack is ready to eat and enjoy!
