Promiscuity: Who's on Top

The answer to this question depends on if you are asking your family, society, your creator, or the opposite sex. The family's view to female promiscuity hasn't changed much, and God's point of view on promiscuity hasn't changed at all. What about society or the opposite sex? Have things loosened up for women and the stigma promiscuous women receive?

Things have changed in the area of how open women can be about promiscuity. Women now-a-days seem to be able to talk about sex more openly, and few blush at the topic. Are women held to a different standard by society then men? The media seems to think it's fine to make top stories about celebrity women being less then saintly. Although, people still look at these women as loose, and certainly they fall out of the category of a lady, society does not react with shock. Some of these scandals even help to promote their careers.

Though things have loosened up a little for women, they haven't changed enough for them to be placed in the same standard as men were once held. What has happened is the standard toward men has been brought up. I believe society's outlook has become stricter towards male promiscuity. With all the laws out there about sexual harassment, men have to watch their P's and Q's. If a girl looks good to a guy, he better watch how he approaches the situation. If the media is covering a male sex scandal, he is probably on trial or going to jail. Also men are being labeled as pigs or womanisers if they come onto women or have multiple partners.

Even in the real world, men hold each other to higher standards. A past coworker of mine use to boast to the other male employees about his weekend encounters. Instead of hoisting him on our shoulders and throwing him a "man of the year" party, we felt bad for the guy and hoped he would grow up. It was just a sad sight to see. It is good to know there are still men and women that hold themselves to higher standards then the ones set by the media. I think society has upped the standards for men and lowered the standards for women enough to place them on more equal playing fields.

As far as how males look at female promiscuity this has not changed much. Though sex is on males' minds and most would jump at the chance for it, for the long haul men are still looking for a less promiscuous woman. Don't believe it? Ask around. The amount of men a woman sleeps with still matters. A signature or a piece of art work is not worth much if it is handed out often and freely. Honestly, would you rather go to the movie theater and watch an epic film about a man who gives everything up for a promiscuous woman or a non-promiscuous woman.

Though promiscuous women are held to similar standards as men by society now, men still look up to and desire the same type of women they always have. There is something about a non-promiscuous woman that will always be alluring and desirable. It is refreshing to know that there are women out there who can still inspire men to more then a quick release, and I hope women don't believe that what the media portrays is acceptable to all.
