Exercise is the best medicine

Developing an exercise routine is the best thing you can do for your overall health. Exercise helps relieve many health conditions and can stop others in their tracks before they become a serious problem.

When a person exercises endorphins are released. Endorphins are neurotransmitters in the brain that have pain relieving properties. People with pain conditions such as fibromyalgia, arthritis, and back aches can greatly benefit from a regular exercise routine.

There will most likely be some pain involved when a person that has one of these medical conditions first starts to exercise. The pain should be in the form of slight soreness. Sharp, stabbing pains are a sign of trouble and should be reported to a physician right away. Start slowly and work yourself up to more strenuous exercise. As you progress the pain will lessen. The endorphins will kick in and your body will get more used to the exercise. You will start to feel better physically and mentally.

People with obesity related conditions such as diabetes can be helped tremendously by following and exercise program. Exercise helps the body's cells use insulin more efficiently. A diabetic's body holds on to insulin instead of using it the way it's supposed to. This results in high blood sugar readings that can cause very dangerous problems down the line. By exercising, you help your body work the way it's supposed to. Exercising after meals is a great way to keep your blood sugar regulated. There is a risk of hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar episodes, when a diabetic first starts an exercise program. Always keep glucose tabs handy for just such emergencies. Don't let the risk of hypoglycemia keep you from exercising!

Fibromyalgia sufferers often have insomnia. Getting regular exercise leads to better sleep. Better sleep gives your body the ability to relax and shuts off the flight or fight response. People with fibromyalgia are often in a constant state of readiness because they don't get into REM sleep and the nerves in their body are always stimulated. Exercising makes you tired and ready for sleep at night. It will also lower the pain level for someone with fibromyalgia which leads to more restful sleep. Every fibromyalgia sufferer should do as much exercise as possible.

Someone who suffers from back pain will benefit from core exercises. They help strengthen the stomach and back muscles, making lifting, bending, and even just walking easier. A strong core is essential to a healthy body.

There are medications that will help with pain. The problem that you run in to is the body getting used to the medicine and it becoming less efficient, requiring ever increasing doses. With exercise your body may adapt, but you can always add new things to your routine or change the level you are exercising at. Unlike medication, exercise doesn't have dangerous side effects. As long as you stop if the pain is bad, don't over do when first starting, and stick with it, exercise really is the best medicine for your body.
