No. I do not believe one can live a life without a few regrets, but I do believe they can be minimized by taking daily account of your actions. It is virtually impossible to go through life without hurting someone's feelings or being able to withhold your anger or irritations when your mettle is being tested to the limits. The question is not whether it is possible to live with a little regret; therefore, any time we react negatively in any of these situations, there should be a measure of regret.

Some folks are capable of running roughshod over others and can truly say they have no regrets, because by not doing so may mean they must acknowledge some of the wrongs and hurts you've visited upon others. Some will say "I always say what is on my mind." For many, regret revolves around feelings and emotions, it's either "I should have said." or "I should not have said.." They also ponder over missed opportunities "I should have done." or "I should not have done." For example in automobile accidents, victims, in reliving the experience, will say something like "If I had swerved a bit to the right, the driver of that other car would have missed hitting my car." I do not believe there is a single individual on earth who at one time or the other has not uttered one of those phrases.

Because we are not automatons, it is important to be able to live with the consequences of each day by questioning whether or not we did the right thing. There is no button we can push that will automatically direct us to the right course of action; however, if we practice doing the right thing often enough, it will become a lifestyle and something we will not need to talk ourselves into believing.

A person of conscience will often reflect on whether what transpired reflected the guiding principles of his or her life and if not will resolve to do it differently the next time. By doing this they are disabusing any regrets from finding a niche and surfacing later on. By saying you have no regrets does not necessarily make it so; we often don't know what is lurking unless we resolve to clean house often. The subconscious mind is capable of holding quite a bit of the garbage we collect over the years and has some not so nice ways of surfacing when we least want them to; therefore, it is important that we know what is there.

There is nothing more pathetic than doing something all your life, like working on a distasteful job, only to discover if you had just taken the steps needed you could have had what you desired and could have been much happier. Don't deceive yourself into believing you have no regrets because by saying so you sound machismo; look deep within and force the subconscious or the subliminal messages to give up their secrets and then begin living the life for which each action is monitored and accounted. Then there will truly be no regrets.
