Abby woke up feeling light headed. The night before she had too much wine and had gone to the roof top with her sister. When they were children they always went to the roof to get away from their parents. Now in their twenties they ate dinner politely as a family. As the night came to a close they found themselves starring at the sky smoking a joint. Abby had never smoked before. She knew her sister, Pam always smoked. It was one of the reasons Pam still lived at home. The girl had no motivation. Last night Abby did smoke. She blamed the wine.
As they sat on the roof Pam asked Abby, "What do you think life would be like if you were never born?"
Abby didn't know how to respond. She did think about it all night though. Around one in the morning she decided to make her way home. Half way there she found a bus stop and feel asleep on the bench. Never had she been so careless.
The sun poured down on her this morning. Abby sat up abruptly. She looked around and saw that no one was paying much attention. It was still early. She could tell by the sun. It was in the middle of rising to its full perfection.
Abby went to grab her purse, but saw it was gone. She looked under her feet and near the curb. Some one must have stolen it while she was asleep. Her whole life was in that purse. Money, drivers license, credit cards, and cell phone. She would have to remember to call to cancel the cards as soon as she got home.
A half hour later she found herself standing in front of her house, but something was off. There were flowers in her flower bed. Ever since she moved into that house five years ago there had never been flowers in the flower bed. She moved around to the back and saw there was no fence surrounding her back porch. Abby ran to her door, grabbed onto the handle and turned it. It was locked. When was the last time she locked her door? She couldn't recall. To her astonishment someone from inside came to the door.
"Can I help you?" It was an older man in his late fifties. He stood in front of her with a cup of coffee and paper.
Abby peered inside, "Um... Maybe I have the wrong place..."
It was her house. She knew where she lived. She walked these same streets every day. How could she have come to the wrong house? The address was right. It was her address. The same one she wrote on return envelopes and greeting cards.
"Anything I can help you with then?" He asked still keeping his patience.
Abby didn't know what to say. She shook her head and watched as he closed the door; her
