Shortly after the New York Giants Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre tearfully announced his retirement.Clearly Favre was not ready to retire, plainly obvious as he bumbled his way through his press conference, unable to finish a sentence without wiping the tears from his eyes.
What was it that made Brett Favre decide it was time to hang them up?
Was he pressured into retirement from The Green Bay front office.Did the coaching staff tell Brett at the end of the season his services were on longer required and they were moving ahead with a new quarterback, or was it just pure, raw emotion on Favre's part which made him decide his thirty-eight year old body had had enough?
Whichever reason there was, within three weeks of the announcement rumours started circulating Brett had second thoughts about retirement and wanted to either come back to the Packers or go to another team. This surprised the front office and coaching staff of the Packers, for they thought the Brett Favre era had come to an end and they were headed in a new direction.Maybe they were hoping after Brett had some time to think, he would change his mind and stick to his original plan of retirement.
Althought still under contract with the Packers, if those rumours were true, then the only thing the organization could do was to trade Favre to a team outside their division. No way he was going to Chicago or Minnestoa, as since those rumours had become reality, what better way to make a statement to Brett that he would be better off playing for a team other then the Packers.
Soon word spread like wildfire Green Bay was interested in shopping Brett Favre around the league.Tampa Bay, according to some reports was interested, as was the New York Jets. Now you had both starting QB's from these teams wondering if they would soon have to take a back seat to Brett Favre, and after Favre's intial retirement announcement, Packers backup QB, Aaron Rodgers would be named starting QB.Now with the circus known as Brett Favre what were these three QB's thinking.
I like Brett Favre, he brought a small market team to the world stage, gave every football fans the thrills whenever he touched the ball and gave the city of Green Bay something to be proud of, but enough is enough, it's time to move on.
All parties involved should be held responsible for this circus.Packers coaching staff and the front office panicked when Favre made his intentions made.Favre clearly should have
