The internet has provided many people with a better way to reach out and be seen. Probably one of the groups to benefit most from this are the artists. Whether you're a musician, writer, sculptor, performer or painter, the internet can provide you with a multitude of outlets in order to have your work seen and sometimes even bought. It isn't just the idea of being out there and immediately selling your work either. There are more opportunities to meet and speak with other artists who have been in the field longer and might be able to provide valuable advice to those who are new and just starting to put themselves out there. Even having the chance to speak to other aspiring artists can prove to be one of the most helpful steps in an artist's career.
There are websites and forums all over the internet that provide a home to many aspiring artists. Websites like deviantart.com are a great place for artists to promote themselves while having the opportunity to see what other artists are doing as well. A site, such as this, is there for many types of aspiring artists. If you've ever get a chance to peruse it's pages, you will find a world of many styles and genres including photography, painting, digital art, drawing, cartooning, manga and so many more.
Websites geared toward helping aspiring artists to meet others they can work with are very common in areas such as comic books. Websites such as digitalwebbing.com, conceptart.org and drawingboard.org are great places for artists to show off their work in the hopes of teaming up with writers, colorists, etc in order to make comics and graphic novels.
There are even websites for the aspiring writer to discuss and find the resources they need in order to get their work out there. What is even better about these sites is that they provide a forum for artists to talk to other artists. This can be some of the most valuable discussion an artist can have. Learning from other artists can help an aspiring artist find some direction and even avoid some of the pitfalls they might be unaware of in the field.
The internet has provided artists with some of the best outlets to discuss art as well as find possible work, sales and exhibitions. It puts their work out to more people than it was ever possible to do before. While the "old ways" of getting out there and putting yourself out there haven't gone to the wayside, they have indeed changed with our new technology and times.
