Should medical marijuana be legalized?

Medicinal marijuana is a topic that is increasingly debated around the country by officials and doctors. Marijuana for medicinal purposes shouldn't even be questioned. If there is a substance that without manipulation of it's properties can be used to spare patients pain it certainly should be available without doubt. To deprive an individual of it should be the crime. God put it here to be used and it has been by many, many generations. The United States government has no right to force much more harmful drugs on its citizens and deprive them of the simplest for of pain relief that being the use of marijuana.

Legalization has long been a subject of debate for the last seventy or eighty years in recent times and has gone as far back as the birth of our nation. It is said that George Washington cultivated marijuana and i tend to believe that as it has many uses other than "getting high". Marijuana was used for many things and cultivated by most people as the stems are particularly strong. These stems were used to make hats, belts, rope and many other necessities. Hemp rope has such superior strength that is was used to tie off the great sailing vessels in docks around the country. Is this something that we want to ignore because it can be grown by most individuals in their window boxes. George Carlan did a spoof about scoring some "dope" and his friend telling him it was "Toledo window box". There are now places in California where you can go and sit and smoke marijuana legally if you have a prescription from a doctor but federal laws are broken at the same time. Does this make one bit of freaking sense, to me it is absurd.

Some of my contentions in the last few sentences weren't of medicinal merit but of practicality of use. Should this not be another good reason that eevery American should have access to their fair share of cannabis sativa? I'd love to be able to quell the pain in my lower back without breaking the law or without jeopardizing my job.

Marijuana is used as a pain reliever for cancer patients having received chemotherapy, glaucoma patients and those having reflux disease to name a couple of uses for it in the medical field. It has no other rival in its effectiveness for these applications and others which are being tested in laboratories throughout the world. Baush and Lomb has a product which uses the effects for eye irritations which is marketed to be used as an eye drop. They bought the rights to this product from a company named Pharmos which
