TV show reviews: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

mayors who turned into giant snakes, hellgods, other slayers and her own boyfriend (when he lost his soul after having sex with her), but her own demons as well. She had a group of friends who helped, a watcher who was like a father to her, not to mention her loving mother and a younger sister who was actually a key made by a bunch of monks. And each character was so well developed that I felt like I had something in common with each and every one of them. While the show was titled, "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer" and while Sarah Michelle Gellar is a great actress, the show was not a one person show. It was an ensemble filled with top notch actors, each of them worthy of having their own show.

Season One through Three took me back to my high school days. Sure, we didn't have a Chosen One among us, nor vampires, hyenas, hellhounds or invisible girls but we did have our fair share of witches and demons (hypothetically speaking). The gang went through growing up, falling in love, being spurned, being humiliated and lots of other things we've all gone through in high school. I sat on the edge of my seat and waited to see if Xander would ever be able to get Buffy to notice him or if he would give up and find someone else, if Willow would ever get Xander to notice her or if she would move on....well, you get the idea.

Sarah was great at portraying Buffy, the Chosen One who wished she wasn't, but when faced with another Chosen One was jealous and wanted her to go away. The girl who fell in love with an older guy (240 to her 16) who she wasn't supposed to love since she was the vampire slayer and he was a vampire (even if he did have a soul). Kind of like the boy that our parents didn't want us hanging out with which only made him more attractive.

Then there was Willow, the shy, sweet, innocent girl who tried to live up to her overachieving parents by getting straight A's. The girl that everyone at school looked at and saw as a braniac. The girl who was a computer whiz, who used her brains to help fight the monsters and who later on became a very powerful witch.

And there was Xander, Willow's best friend since kindergarden, the guy she had hooked up with until he stole her Barbie, who she still had a crush on and who was the biggest geek in high school. Although, in reality, I never saw a geek as cute as Xander at my school. He was the 'normal one', but yet he was the one that most of us could identify with. And he had a sense of loyalty that would throw him into any fight,
