A Man Named Jim
On the corner sat an unshaven ,elderly man
With a "please help" sign in his hand
"Not another homeless person," I said to myself
As I impatiently waited for the light
Why can't he work like everyone else
I almost drove right past him
Like many times before
But I was sure I heard someone say
His name is Jim
He is in need of a friend
So I guided my car around and introduced myself
I gave him food to eat and water to drink
And as I listened to his life story
My pride and selfishness began to shrink
He said, "I fought in World War two
Lost an arm and a leg and a part of my mind
Upon returning home, my family had vanished
With no wife or home, what am I to do
But sit here in hopes of a friend to find"
"May the Lord bless you" was all I could say
When in reality, it was I who had been blessed
With tears in my eyes, I knelt down to pray
"Please don't let me take my blessings for granted
For life can change in a "twinkling of an eye"
Several times I drove by that same corner
But this man, named Jim, was nowhere to be found
Was he just a figment of my imagination?
Or was he an angel in disguise
On the corner sat an unshaven, elderly man
With a "please help" sign in his hand
