Ways to define creativity in education

THE CREATIVITY FACTORY. Being creative works best if it involves teamwork. Brainstorming is the great idea factory. It is the place where minds begin to run in overdrive. If brainstorming is done with intention and determination, it is the place where new methods are invented. It is the place where creative ideas become reality. Brainstorming with an attitude will change the way teachers teach and students learn. Brainstorming is the beginning of creativity.

CREATIVITY AND OBJECT LESSONS. Creative object lessons have a way of opening the minds of students while making very clear an idea or principle that is being taught in any subject. A creative teacher can pick up almost any object and use it to teach a lesson or encourage a student to want to learn more. An object lesson used once a day or once a week will cause the students to look forward their classes with anticipation. Often the object lesson will teach a life lesson that will encourage them to take interest in the class subject, or learning in general. Sometimes it will actually be able to apply directly to the day's lesson, no matter the subject. An object lesson can put into motion an idea that will change the students life direction.

If teachers have talents and special abilities that they love, they need to pack them up and bring them into the classroom. They need to integrate what they love and enjoy into their teaching. When that happens they begin to show students how that which they are learning in class can be applied to the "real world."

Educational professionals need to promote the idea of every educator employing creativity in their area of service. This will free them up and widen their comfort zone so that when they to wander out to the edge they will still feel safe. The education of our students is worth the risk.
