First let me say that this question is much like questions in election and other polls. It lacks, like most other questions and ensuing discussions a very important aspect called "definition".
Examples:
We use ________________ when we mean _______________
sex gender
making love having sex
leaders position of leadership (politics especially)
So that I can be sure the reader understands what I am saying, I offer the following.
A person who wishes to enter the US and become a citizen will, abide by the laws of this nation and apply for permission to pursue this dream. This is a legal immigrant and should be welcomed.
In some cases during the application process, subsequent investicagition and background check it may be discovered that an individual was dishonest in the application and is hiding undesirable traits or activities. These people are labled illegal immigrants and may be subject to deportation. The current law provides for this and I agree that their path to citizenship should be terminated. I took the words illegal immigrants as used today and on this basis chose deport since, this is the law.
There is however, another catagory that I fear has been included in the discussion under the heading of illegal immigrants who should be referred to as illegal alieans. They are often referred to as undocumented immigrants when infact they traspassed into this country without any intention to become a citizen ergo are not immigrants. Since, I believe these are the primary subjects of this discussion, I believe that there should be a limited time period for these individuals to be voluntarily documented. Those first to be documented would be the first available for employment. If they express a desire to become an American Citizen then they will be investigated and permitted to enter the immigration process provided that they maintain a spotless law record and proof of employment for five years and have the ability to converse in English. Short of this they would be subject to deportation.
This approach must be accompanied by a stringent crackdown on those who employ these individuals in terms of pay and humane treatment of documented workers in his/her employ.
Employment of undocumented workers must suffer heavy fines and loss of business license and priviliges.
