Given the current buzz in South Africa due to the fast approaching Soccer World Cup finals that one could forget what a great place it is at any time.Currently very affordable given the rand dollar exchange rate.

Start your journey in the south at Cape Town, often describes as the most beautiful city in the world. As it nestles under the towering cliffs of Table Mountain with views out to Robben Island, for many long years the prison of that most inspirational twentieth century leader Nelson Mandela, you can, on a clear day see for miles. Eat in the fabulous restaurants that are such a feature of the new modern South Africa and enjoy the fine wines.Spend some time just chilling at the Waterfront, soaking up the sights and sounds of vibrant Africa. A great meal for two with wine will cost around $35, this is superb value for the quality you will get, not too mention the smiling service.

Hire a car and drive up to the wine growing areas of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek . There, nestling in sheltered areas are mile upon mile of vineyards. Modern methods ensure fresh tasting, award winning wines. Red or white, the choice is endless and at around $4 - $5 dollars a bottle, great value.

Head on up the Garden Routestopping at George for a game of golf at Fancourt before hitting the coast again and stopping in Kynsna. The town is situated in a sheltered lagoon with access to the sea only through The Heads'. Explore Buffalo Bay and Brenton-on- Sea for awesome beach walks. Watch the rare red oyster catchers foraging and in the correct season, June to November watch out for Southern Right Whales with calves close in to shore. This is truly an awesome experience and one to savor.

Drive the 30 km to Plettenberg Bay, the absolute jewel of the Garden Route. The Tsitsikamma Mountains as a backdrop and the magnificent beaches of the bay will blow your mind. With four kilometers of length, Robberg Beach is never crowded, even in peak season. Walk round the Robberg Peninsulanature reserve and enjoy the views. Eat your lunch at the Lookout deck overlooking Keurbooms Strand and you will spot schools of dolphins and whales spouting in the bay, truly awesome. B and B in a 5 star place will cost you about $50; these places have to be experienced to be believed. Drive up to highest bungee drive in the world at Storms River and test your nerve, yours for about 30 bucks including the video to show all your friends.

Finish up with a game park drive. There are many around the area with the big 5 to be seen. Or go to the Adoo elephant park near Port Elizabeth. This is a truly inspirational, spiritual place and inexpensive.

Flights are plentiful, car hire is cheap, food and accommodation is superb.

There is no better place to spend your dollars at the moment. Go for it.
