A new generation of educational opportunities

The Internet and globalization have increased the potential and opportunity for learning in all areas. Educational opportunities have become so expansive that families, from their children's birth, are inundated with choices . They must decide what their children need to learn, when they need to learn it, and in what school to enroll their children so they can compete in a rapidly expanding world.

There are no shortages of internet tools and parents who are interested in having their children kindergarten ready with skills in both Spanish and English should look at the tools offered at www.learningprops.com
This site offers games and books, which include learning games, books in English, and bilingual books. They have incorporated resources for school and home use.

In www.thinktv.org, students, parents and educators are able to click on to PBS children shows and engage in a large selection of interactive games while listening to beautiful music. "Think on the Air" is a selection of channels that allows one to check in at certain times of the day and become part of whatever is being featured. For example, channel 14 lists prime, learn, world, create, and think (Clifford the Big Red Dog and Arthur are featured) at different times of the day.

http://superkids.com/aweb/tools contains a myriad of free educational resources and tools and also games such as logic and reasoning, vocabulary building, hangman and math worksheets. It's a great site for interactive learning.

http://www.difflearn.com is another great site and offers parents with children who have autism some great learning options. There are flash cards that cover such areas as basic language, conceptual, function, conversation and argumentative. There is also a "watch me modeling" video as well as a host of other learning material, including video options.

http://www.intel.com/education offers a palette of K-12 teaching tools and is one of the most innovation educational sites on the Internet. Intel teaches technology literacy and problem solving to underserved students around the world. They also help teachers assess the needs of students in 21st century teaching, allowing them to network with other educators for ideas on using student-centered strategies in the classroom.

http://www.wateruseitwisely.com looks at ways to conserve water, which today in my estimation is as important as learning math and science. This site provides interactive games on water conversation for families to share with their children. It lists 100 ways to conserve water for those living in Northwest, those in Southwest, those in Northeast and those in Southwest. There are also water saving tips and suggestions for conserving when gardening, etc.
