When I was in college, I took up an engineering course. Back then, I used to write several term papers and research projects about electronics, computer and technology. I always wanted to submit one of the best projects. If I was not in a class, I spent most of my time in the college library reading books. I used to borrow books to take home as well.
Yes, I had my own set of books then, but one book on a particular topic can only give as much information. I could better understand a certain subject if I read several books about it. It would be nice if I could buy all those interesting paperbacks but computer- and technology-related books were quite pricey then so I just had to stick with the library.
Right now, I am not in school anymore yet I still write papers. Thanks to the Internet, I need not go far anymore to research on the topics I write. I get lots of information with my searches on the Internet. And to my surprise, I found this wonderful website that offers copies of computer books for free. Now, there is really no reason for me to go to a library and manually browse each and every book shelf to find the book that I need.
Books Catalogue Team
The link for this amazing website is www.pdfchm.com. It has a huge catalogue of computer and technology books, more about self-help and tutorial books. Every week, the site adds several new books to its list. It has books about all Operating Systems, Programming Languages, Application Suites and many more. These books can be downloaded either as a PDF or CHM file, hence the name of the website.
The Books Catalogue Team, owners and webmasters of www.pdfchm.com, allows anyone to have a copy of any book found in their site provided that a user account is created first. There are two types of account to choose from Basic or Pro.
The Basic account is for free. The account holder can download books without paying anything. There are some restrictions, though. When a Basic account holder logs in to the site, the IP address will be recorded. The purpose of this is to track the number of download requests coming from the same IP address. A user may only download one book at a time. After downloading, there will be a timer which has varying end times depending on the number of books already downloaded for the day.
The Pro account, on the other hand, is a paid account. Upgrading to a Pro account costs 29.99 USD as of this writing. The fee is already good for one whole year. The benefits of having a Pro account are having no timer for downloading, no recording of IP address, and no captcha validation required.
Since books are easily obtained online, there is a huge possibility of unauthorized distribution of copies of these books. The owners of this site created a system that detects distribution of illegal copies of the books that came from them. Once a user has been determined to be doing such act, he will be blocked from the site and appropriate actions will be taken.
In my case, I only download the books for my personal use. And if someone asks me a copy of them, I just share with them the website so they can also find other books that they might be interested in. You may also want to visit the site yourself. Who knows, you might find there the book that you've been looking for and you don't have to pay for it anymore.
