Poetry: A new year

by T.C Leonard

"Better Times Ahead?"

Three-hundred sixty-five days go by
No accomplishments I fear
I look in the mirror
It's the same man standing here
There's no new prize on my mantle
And no more money in the bank
I'd blame somebody for it
But I just have me to thank
What makes next year feel so different?
Well, I really can't be sure
I'll have to take it day-by-day
And, surely, I'll endure
On the horizon looms a new year
Perhaps no different than the rest
Will I make my mark upon the world?
Just this once I'll do my best
