When Fluffy was killed much to early in his life, simply from a person who did not have patience to deal with a kitten, nor the temperance to be left in charge of watching a hyperactive cat, who had come from life on the streets, to a home, with most of the occupants, blissfully unaware of a kittens needs, a male kitten no less, so really it was not the best time to have a pet particularly that was that fragile.
Though we did, and what is done is done, but to remember a bit and to reflect on his loss, over a few Thanksgivings back, when he was only a part of our family for a very short time, the only real reflection as hindsight is 20/20 is that there was much more that could of been done, and things that could of been prevented had there been more awareness. Things of course could of been different, had there been awareness when Panda was lost also simply because she was given aspirin with the greatest intentions in mind, but was not aware that cats of any sort cannot and should not be ever given aspirin because there own system is different then ours and the result can often be a coma and death.
To reflect on the loss of fluffy our little tuxedo kitty, is to realize how many people who bring a kitten into their life completely unaware of how much is required to take care of a kitten properly who are only intrigued by how cute the kitty is, and how small it is. A kitten is a full time job waiting to happen, and just as with anything the key to proper care is within the awareness, only gained through reading books on and about cats and kittens, books such as Kittens for Dummies and The Simple Guide to Cats both are good starting points even before you start shopping for a kitten. We had done what we could for Fluffy, but only what we could without the necessary awareness that these two books offer, to anyone who wants to bring a orphan kitty into their home. It is not to say that you should not it is to say that you should be aware before you start offering up your home to a stray you may find on the street.
Even though it was a painful experience at the time, the one thing that was gained is the realization of how important it is to be aware before hand. Fortunate for the pets we have now, a tortoise shell, calico, and tuxedo, and a mixed breed mutt, that awareness has been put to the best use, we now each know how to handle cats, what not to give them and how to be the best caretakers for our feline and canine pals. For me personally I have found that there are many good books on pet care, and have begun to read as many as I can to gain the insight to be the best caretaker I can, for an animal that is completely dependent on you, to keep them happy, healthy and loved. As a result of taking that extra time to educate yourself you grow and your awareness improves, so just be aware, there will certainly be death but it should be death after a long life, of loving without judgement as our pets do for you.
