I went to church on Saturday. I went to St. Frances Xavier church out here in Phoenix. It's on Camelback. I wanted to see the church because every Catholic church I have been to in Phoenix is very small and not what I have been use to. This was a good old fashioned church, kind of like the ones in Chicago or NYC. My neighborhood church in Chicago, St. Cornileus, was a big church. It echoed when you walked in. Big alter, stations with statues of saints so you can light candles, I am sure you know what I am talking about. That is what this church was like on Saturday. I have been to church in Phoenix but not because I wanted to go, but because I had to drive my Grandma. Her church is small and not big and spacious and glorius, but on Saturday, this was one of the most fullfilling times I have had in church since 1992 before my Grandparents died. I actually cried during the Homily and the Profession Of Faith, that is when Catholics profess their faith during the Mass ("We Believe in one God, that father, the almighty" etc).
I believe in God, and I believe in Jesus. I don't believe I need to go to church to show my faith. I don't believe God belongs to one group, but to all. So even though I am Catholic, and I worship like a Catholic, I am a lapsed Catholic, and I believe in all faiths. I am comfortable in my relationship with God and Jesus that I get angry at them, and I profess my anger to them. I am sure they understand when I get angry at them. I am sure Jesus would debate me, as he was a great debater when I question him. I know you are not suppose to question, but don't you think Jesus would be OK with that? The Apostles questioned. I also don't believe God is a messenger of Hate and Intollerance. Yes God has done some bad things to us, but God does do good things as well. People say "where is God" and I have to quote Stevie Wonder in his song Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, "it's taken him so long 'cause we've got so far to come".
I am a liberal, I am a left winger. And I want to take back God from the right wingers who have twisted his words, and made him a messenger of hate. When Bush says he prays and believes God is telling him he is doing the right thing by going to Iraq, or now Iran, I say LEAVE GOD OUT OF IT. HE NEVER ENDORSED A WAR. When you tall me that Gays and Lesbians are living in sin, and you quote the Bible to me and say it's in the bible, I say SHOW ME THE ACTUAL QUOTE IN CONTEXT, AND NOT SOMETHING YOU CHOOSE TO PROVE YOUR ARGUMENT.
