Showers in Mexico
Cars on the cobblestone streets
emit gas into the humid air,
as the smell of salt lingers
from the nearby ocean, mingling
with the hot temperatures of Mexico.
Mexico is always linked with the words
scorching, burning, or hot.
People also understand the tropical light rains
that take part there too.
But when you think Mexico
do you ever think of strong, powerful thunderstorms?
Rain cascades down upon
the little shacks and streets
of Puerto Vallarta,
overflowing them with the
abundance of water.
To the west lies a mountain,
carpeted in rainforest foliage,
lush with greens,
while to the east,
beaches stretch into a curve.
Sand, what used to be smooth and fine,
is now pummeled to the ground
by the harsh winds and rain,
resulting in it being coarse
and dense like mud.
Hunched and miserable,
people avoid puddles that
reflect the sullen sky.
From somewhere in the distance,
lightening meets the Earth,
sounding like plastic
being ripped in a tunnel.
Not long after,
thunder rumbles,
only making the day even glummer.
And as we look up,
squinting against the showers,
the rain descents from space.
