Strawberry Surprise
Sally loved strawberry shortcake, it was her favored. She loved to savor the sweet flavor of strawberries and the whipped topping as they danced together on her taste buds. One day there was a cake baking contest at school and the winner would get $50. :"Wow!" Sally said to her mother. "I'm going to make a strawberry shortcake and its going to be the biggest and best shortcake ever." Her eyes lit up as she thought how everyone would love her strawberry shortcake and what she would do with the money.
First she thought about giving the money to her mother, than she thought about giving half of it to her mother and spending the other half on clothes and toys. She thought about the new doll set she saw at the mall when her mother took her shopping last week.
It was a beautiful set. The doll's name was Millie Muffin and she had long brown hair and hazel eyes. It came with two sets of clothes; one was a baker's outfit, so you could pretend Millie was baking muffins or cookies. The other was an evening gown for when Millie wanted to spend a night on the town. It even came with its own play muffin pan and recipes that you could make yourself.
Sally wanted that set so bad. She knew she would be the most popular girl in school if she had that set. Even Rita Lawson would play with her if she had that set, but the set cost exactly $50 and her mother said that they just couldn't afford it right now.
"We can afford it when I win that contest", she thought to herself, but the sound of her mother's voice interrupted her thoughts and they burst like delicate soap bubbles.
"What are you going to do if you win?" her mother asked. Sally told her mother about the doll set and she listened intently.
"What if you don't win?" Her mother did not want Sally to be disappointed. She knew that winning such a contest would not be easy even with her help. "I'm going to win", Sally replied as her eyes lit up with anticipation. "Besides how can I lose, you know how much I love strawberry shortcake".
"Yes I know how much you love strawberry shortcake but there is going to be other children with other cakes and pies and I'm sure theirs' will be good also." Sally's mother was very practical and she knew that things didn't always go as planned. "I just don't want you to count your chickens before they hatch, you understand?" Sally nodded an emphatic yes. "Good", her mother said. Now we have to make a list of the ingredients we need and take a trip to market."
The next day Sally
