How to make an eggshell vase

by Sicily

Easter is celebrated with candy, dying Easter eggs, and of course the Easter egg hunt.
This year you and your family can use all the fun things of Easter to make a beautiful gift for another loved one. You can make an Egg Shell Vase any time of year, but it's always more fun during Easter.

The first thing you need to is get a parent or adult to help you. Then you'll need your supplies.

Basic Supplies:

Broken easter egg shells (colored or white which ever you prefer)
*Make sure you let them dry overnight the night before you make the vase*

A bottle (The size, shape and color of the bottle are completely up to you)
*Glass or Plastic bottles can be used*

Art glue (This can be purchased at any craft store, and most drugstores)
*Make sure the glue dries clear, that way you can use as much as you need*

Small paint brush

If you decide you want to make it more decorative you can use a variety of other decorations.

Just some examples

Feathers go perfect for the easter theme

Glitter or Glitter Glue can be used to add a little flare

Color construction paper or foam pieces can be used to add a personal touch
Like a message or a name.

Pipe cleaners come in a variety of colors and can be cut to any length.

After you chose all the supplies you want to decorate your vase, it's time to set up your craft area. The easiest way to do this is to either lay some newspaper down, or if mom has an old table cloth that's just as good. That way you can have fun, and clean up is a breeze.

Now on to the project:

First lay your broken egg shells out on the newspaper with the color side down.
Next you want to apply a layer of glue on one side of the bottle.
Then you roll the part of the bottle covered in glue over the egg shells so they stick.
Continue to apply the glue and roll the bottle until it is covered the way you want it.
After all egg shells are applied and the glue has dried paint another layer of glue over the outside of the shells. *This adds more protection so the shells are less likely to fall off*
After the top coat of glue has dried go ahead and add any other decorations you choose to use. *Remember this is your vase so the possibilities are endless!*

Let your vase dry completely. If you use glitter over the egg shells remember to apply another top coat of glue to ensure it will stay.

Now you can remove the newspaper or cloth, and clean up any messes made. If your giving the vase as a gift wrap a bow of ribbon around it, and don't forget the flowers!
