I have been in the work force for over twenty years, mostly customer service. I lived in the Milwaukee area for the most part of live, I had three jobs working in office, customer service and clerk work.
My husband passed away and I had two boys to rise so I started a home cleaning service, which I was the sole owner. I did the scheduling the cleaning, my taxes the whole nine yards so that I would be home when my boys where home. When I was needed for them at school or other events I was there. I ran my business for five years.
When my boys got older we moved up to a small town in the middle of Wisconsin and I went to work for a car dealer ship again in the office/the pay wasn't so cool but I stayed for four years. There where a few reason I decide to come back to the Milwaukee area. And in that four years things had changed.
I found myself older (of course) and it was hard to find a job, and because I did not have any degress-Oh boy people would not even talk to me, still won't, it doesn't matter that I have over twenty years experience in the office.
Since I have been back in the Milwaukee area I still haven't found an office job. I have been working driving a school bus (Good thing I like Kids hey!) I have been applying for office jobs, but because now I have been a home cleaning person-and a school bus driver trying putting that on our resume and see how far you get! Employers don't take into consideration that I had a family to surport and I did what I had to do too bring money into the house.
I don't thinks its much of struggle looking for a job, its that employers are excepting why more then what we have to offer. Plus you have to remember there like hundreds of people searching for that one job. So when you apply-you have to think how many more people are applying for that same job.
Times are changing and people are excepting alot more then what we are use to, and for
less money then we think we are worth. Plus instead of applying in person, now you either e-mail or fax your resume-you don't even get the chance to met with anyone in person. I don't think this new method of applying is very people friendly.
Maybe we need to step back in time-when you went in and applied for the job, and had a little conversation with the employer or clerk. Maybe this would put us back on a personal level with people instead of in personal. Sometimes we need to slow down and take time to get back to the basic side of life.
