Unless you have spent the last decade comatose or on a remote desert island somewhere, you've no doubt heard about the "hip" new craze. Knitting. Nanna's worldwide are waving their needles in the air and shouting "I told you so" to the "in crowd.

Like every hobby, those who have caught the bug have the desire to share their passion with others. there are plenty of outlets for this on-line. You just have to google the words "Knitting" and "Knitting patterns" or "Knitting forums" to be presented with thousands upon thousands listings. Starting your own knitters blog or joining a forum is one way to stay in contact with others that share your obsession, but clicking away while staring at a computer can get a little lonely. We all like a little human contact now and then and I can almost guarantee that there are at least two other people within a one mile radius of you that share your enthusiasm for the clicking of sticks and tangling of fibre.

Here are a few tried and tested tips to help you meet these other knit-a-holics.

1. FIND A PLACE TO MEET.

Your venue should be well lit, smoke-free, not too crowded at the time you want to meet, easy to get to (that is close to public transport if you are city dwellers or having nearby parking for those of you that must travell by car) and most of all it must have a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Some ideal places could be found in cafes, library meeting rooms or public park buildings. You could also host a group in your own home, but its usually best to keep the meeting ground neutral, at least for the first few meetings (until you all get to know each other).

Once you have decided on a venue make sure that you speak with the owner and make sure that you are allowed to -have a group of 5 to 25 people meet there on a regular basis, have a group there that may get a little loud and chatty and move chairs around while you're there if needed.

It is very important to form a good relationship with the owner of your chosen venue. Let them know that you appreciate their hospitality and abide by any rules thay have and it will help maintain a nice cosy, relaxed atmosphere for your group.

2. SET UP A MAILING LIST
You can do this on YahooGroups, through Hotmail or any other free mailing list or groups service. You can call your group whatever you like. Mant people choose to call their group "stitchnbitch" followed by the name of the city or suburb in which their meeting is held.

A mailing list is a great tool for gauging interest before your
