the first, float swiftly across the road and dissolving into the darkness all the while staring at Eden.
Eden fell to the ground and almost hit her head on a nearby picnic table. "Crap with a capitol C! This can't be happening." She quickly looked around for signs of other faces, or maybe just a friendly face coming toward her from the opposite direction. Nothing! Nothing but dark, cold air.
She raised herself up and thought about heading back to her cabin, but realized she was closer to Whiteriver than her cabin, and quickly started a sprint to a more familiar environment. The sky and the ground melded together in the darkness as if to say, "Come Eden, come join us, all you have to do is die."
Lights of Whiteriver came into view as she crossed over the last hill before the reaching the gravel road that would bring her to Whiteriver. "Thank GOD! A friendly sight, now I'm safe."
"Safe from what?" echoed a voice from behind her. Not her voice, not even a voice of this world, but rather a voice from another time and another place. When the ghostly figure came within inches of her face, her senses felt the stench of a dead body. Eden was part of the search and rescue team and had had her share of finding dead bodies. "Child don't be afraid, you'll discover the truth soon enough."
The figure circled Eden then floated through Eden and away into the horrid, black night. Tears began to roll down the curved, smooth lines of her face. "It's not real, it can't be," she said, as she tried to recompose herself. Eden was almost completely drained of energy and could barely stand. She knew her only hope was to reach the town before the ghost re-appeared and did something more frightening than just talking.
Although her body ached and she was scared beyond belief, she managed to gather enough energy
