looked like a large cave entrance nearby. When she discovered what it actually was, she stood as still as a stone. Now, her life changed forever. It was an entrance to a cave, but just inside the cave lay a huge brown bear.
She knew her life depended on what she did next. The bear, though nearly dead from what appeared to be multiple gun shot wounds, saw Eden and began growling. Eden knew that a bear this size still had strength, strength enough to kill if it had to. Eden knew if she moved at all the bear wound lunge at her and maybe make a meal out of her.
Eden decided that she may be just fast enough to outrun a wounded bear, after all she was the high school field and track star for the women of Western High School, so she could easily out run a wounded bear. That's what she thought at the time. She was wrong. Eden slowly started to back up as the bear edged its way back on its hind legs.
"Oh crap! this thing looks like it could tear into me without twitching a finger."
Eden surmised that it stood about ten feet tall when fully upright.
"Crap!" she muttered. "This doesn't look good."
While backing up and trying to keep an eye on the bear, Eden tripped over a branch, tumbling flat on her back. The next few seconds were horror for Eden. The bear ran over to her and pounced on her as if he hadn't been near death, but rather physically fit and ready for a fight.
The bear tore at her clothes and ripped them from her body. As the bear continued to attack her, shots echoed through the forest and a voice said, "Get away from my sister you filthy pig!"
The bear looked up and standing about twenty feet away from him were Josh and Helen, Eden's brother and sister. Josh had brought his rifle with him and had drawn a bead on the bear. The bear stood up, and fumbled a little as his wounds from the previous fight started acting up.
"Don't you dare touch my sister again, or I'll blow you from here to kingdom come!"
The bear gave Josh a look like dog's do when you talk to them and you'd swear they know what you're saying. By this time Helen had worked her way around the bear and kneeled at Eden's head.
Somehow it appeared to Josh that the bear heard Helen and turned back around. The bear wasn't happy at what he saw. Bloodied fur began falling off the bear as he lunged toward Helen. Josh took aim, fired, and nailed the bear's right eye with the last bullet he had left. The bullet pummeled through the bear's eye and out it's left ear as the bear fell over into the nearby brush.
