Poetry: Crime

by Annmarie Goffeney

Created on: August 01, 2008

Adorned in her little pink party dress
She plays and sings and dances amongst her family tree
Her youthful innocence free for all to see
Lovingly he pats his gracious knee
An invitation accepted with love and joyous glee
If only she were old enough to see
To recognize all the deceit and lies he holds within his eyes
A blanket he grabs to hide his shame and to keep himself from blame
With his prowling hands a young life he stole
A buried memory for her heart to hold
The young girl grown
She cries
She moans
Her nights she dreads as this memory shreds
The passage of time does not heal the pain of his crime
