Interloper
Dire shadow passing by, so menacing and dark,
Stopped to loom formless, so grave and stark,
Unseen by the children in playing happy games,
Their laughter smote it hard with searing flames!
"Oh damn ye tittering whelps as well thy cheer",
Glowered the wraith deep in rage born of fear,
"Twitter then when thy necks me hand seizes,
I will end thy joy and dash jubilation in pieces!"
More waves of musical mirth washed o'er it,
Burning pain producing a new convulsing fit,
Silent shriek ripping through the ether gloom,
As specter shrank from airy laughter's bloom!
"Happiness!" Husked dread spirit raging anew,
"I'll stop thy hurtful glee be it the last act I do,
O' ye damned hated, innocent angels of light,
I'll this very moment smash ye to eternal night!"
Swelling in fantastic fury to nigh twice its girth,
Ghost screams in silence "Damn thy awful mirth!"
Leaping from darkness and springing through air,
Flying towards the poor children unsuspecting there!
But e'er the maddened malevolent shade could harm,
Hiding Angels ran to tickle them under their arms,
And a gale of purest, innocent delight blasted out,
To scorch and send the shadow reeling with a shout!
End over end flew the silently screaming wraith,
Out into the void far from joy's shielding faith,
Flung from the bright world of childish laughter,
Yet compelled, the hated, innocent joy to go after.
Loathing the darkness but ever more so the light,
Dread shade gathered itself sniveling in its plight,
Beginning its journey to again fight the cherubim,
Feared warriors wielding the laughter of children!
