United States currency used to reign supreme, but since 2002, its value has been gradually declining. International travel has also changed for the average American. Expenses take a much greater toll than they did six years ago due to the weaker exchange rate! Fortunately, certain international trips are still impressive deals, and are exhilarating as ever.
Eastern Europe may be modern and civilized, but lodging and meals there are surprisingly inexpensive. Finally, sticker shock may be induced by unbelievably low prices! Travelers can squeeze plenty out of their dollars in Hungary. Its capital, Budapest, is often compared to Paris for its similar architecture and atmosphere. It is home to the centuries-old Basilica of St. George and the historic castle district, after all. When it comes time to take a break from sightseeing and dine, an inexpensive, top-notch Czech beer tastes extraordinary with every meal.
For another incredible value, travelers may stay a bit closer to home and vacation in Mexico. One peso is worth roughly ten cents, and most local waiters only make about forty pesos per day! Four dollar workdays definitely prove how powerful American currency is in this country. With mysterious ruins, ancient cities, colorful reefs, and flourishing jungles to explore, what reason is there not to go to Mexico?
Guatemala is not much farther away, and so most parts are similar to Mexico. Ancient Mayan ruins crop up often around this rocky region. Hikers can visit them and get close to massive volcanoes afterward, some of which are presently active! Back in the traditional villages, markets can get confusing since over twenty different languages are spoken, and locals are not typically fond of outsiders. Nonetheless, this country is the perfect place to go to experience nature at its best.
It's no surprise that for successful travel bargains, areas overflowing with tourists should usually be avoided. This is no difficult task in Laos. All of Indochina offers generous exchange rates, but Laos is the optimal country to head toward for a relaxing getaway. Its population is smaller than every other Indochinese country and the residents welcome visitors gladly. In addition, tourism has yet to take over this nirvanic landlocked locale.
Laos is also home to the enchanting monastery town of Luang Prabang, which has been called the best-preserved of all Asian cities. Also amidst the mountainous terrain, the quaint capital of Vientiane preserves artifacts that were created over 1,000 years ago. To top it all off, most Laotian businesses accept U.S. dollars, so there is hardly a need to exchange them for kip, the local currency.
The USD also packs a punch in most South American countries, and Chile is no exception. The Andes attract avid skiers and the scenery draws in nature enthusiasts. Hikers and horsemen come to tread the Patagonian trails and to see immense glaciers. After dusk, the nightlife in Santiago is always booming. What's not to love? The days of the all-powerful dollar may have come to an end, but that won't stop travelers holding American currency from experiencing the world!
