The Eye of the World has been seen, the Great Hunt has begun, the Dragon Reborn has been revealed, the Shadow Rising has started, and now... the Fires of Heaven rain down upon all men.
Fifth in a series of fantasy fiction books, The Fires of Heaven continues the story that has been left uncompleted with Shadow Rising.
Robert Jordan brings Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan to the prestigious title of Amyrlin Seat, and now she exercises her power by bringing those who follow her to order, and not only in telling them what do, but even reducing one unfortunate Shemerin Sedai from Aes Sedai to Accepted, something that has never been done before in the history of Aes Sedai. Holding to the thought that the White Tower must remain unbroken, she sends a message for all Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah to return to the Tower.
Siuan Sanche, furious at her betrayal from fellow Aes Sedai, and still a little hot over being torn down from her former place as Amyrlin Seat, seeks out her revenge, bringing along with her Min, Leane, and Logain. Trying to seek out revenge comes along with trying to seek out the haven of the fleeing Blue Ajah, but while trying to find this haven, Siuan, Min and Leane find themselves abandoned by Logain, and also find themselves the accused of a barn-burning that Logain left behind. Facing the choice to either be punished in front of public eyes or to try to weasel their way into something more lenient, Siuan and the two other women swear an oath to the now country lord Gareth Bryne to serve for as long as they must, under the false names of Mara, Amaena, and Serenla. They find themselves being carted to Gareth Bryne's manor, until, on the way, they are rescued by Logain, and they resume their journey once again.
Rand al'Thor is learning much and little from his newfound teacher, Asmodean (who is traveling under the name Jasin Natael for safety purposes), and is trying hard to block out dreams of Min, Aviendha, and Elayne. He finds himself chasing Couladin and the Shaido Aiel, who are eager to show the world their "true" Car'a'carn, and who are now contenting themselves to pillage Cairhien. With the help of Matrim Cauthon and the other Aiel Chiefs, Couladin is soon dead and the savage Shaido so scattered and scarce they are as good as dead. Rand moves on to take Cairhien, although he makes no mention of who will rule.
Lanfear stands in the background, still watching him; doing her best to assure that Lews TherinRand al'Thorremains forever hers.
