The first word when looking for vacation deals is flexibility. If you're flexible, have the time, and of course that little thing called money, you can go almost anywhere your heart desires on a whim, and for a good price.
The best deals are usually either right at the beginning of the season, or at the very end of the season. Cruise deals are usually the best during the off season. When you decide when and where you want to go, check out every available website. I check directly with the airline websites, as they offer last minute deals if booking directly with them. I also check with travel websites such as Orbitz, Expedia, Cheap Flights etc. Sometimes if you book with a travel website, their prices may be cheaper then booking directly with the airlines, but the service fees you have to pay them, may end up being more then if you booked directly. It's best to check out both ways before making your final decision.
Cruises can be fantastic vacation deals. The upgrades the cruise ships offer you to fill those ships are unbelievable. You can find many of those deals through cruise websites. Sign up on different cruise websites and they'll notify you when they have open cabins. Let them know your preferences as to destinations your interested in, and they'll email you when something is available.
Las Vegas, as well as Florida destinations, are also great last minute vacation destinations. MLT Vacations is great place to look for deals to these destinations. They offer great packages at very affordable prices. Check there listings usually on Thursdays and through the weekend. They have a website, but also run ads in the weekend newspapers and on television advertising their specials.
If you're within driving distance of your destination, you can get some great last minute deals at 5 Star hotels on weekends. The best way to that is sign up for their hotel rewards programs and they will notify you when they have a slow weekend at their hotel, and you can enjoy a weekend break without traveling too far. With gas prices the way they are now, this may be a very affordable mini vacation for you.
Your smaller airlines sometimes offer great prices in order to compete with the larger carriers. Check out the Orbitz, Expedia, Priceline, and other travel websites for these deals. One word of advice on smaller carriers is if you can book a nonstop flight to your destination, it's best to do it. Many times the flights that are cheaper, are not nonstop, though. I have run into a lot of problems when changing planes with these airlines. The flights seem to be delayed a lot, and then you miss your connection. They don't have a lot of planes flying so you're stuck if you miss your connection. I've had to buy a whole new ticket to finish my trip not too long ago, on one of these airlines. Just be careful, sometimes the deal is not as good as it looks.
All inclusive resorts are good spots for last minute vacations too. Usually it's at the end of the season that you'll find your bargains there also. If you have a chance to do this, it's a good buy for the money. It includes "Everything", from cocktails to all your entertainment. Sandals Resorts is a very good source for these vacations. Signing up on their website is the best way to get notified of these offers.
Keep your eyes and your ears open, and you'll surely find some fantastic last minute travel deals, whatever your travel preferences may be.
