Poetry: Immortality

by Mary Guimont

Yesterday I saw your smile,
In the blue sky,
You shone bright
at first dawn's light

I heard your laughter,
Echo through the walls of my home
As my son laughed out loud alone.

Today, I saw you fly
As eagle
In the sky

Looking down
Without a word or a sound
The nearness of you
I knew
As he flew.

I heard you whistle outside
As you did when I was a child
But to my surprise
It was a bird outside

Without hesitation
Or fear.
The bird came near.

I saw you last night
As a shooting star
Rainbows of light.

Burst in flames
In your flight

You were on

your journey

To eternity
